Question Is 4070 (non ti) a good option for 1440p gaming?

Well it is time i upgrade my 1070; I was thinking for the gigabyte 4070 - maybe the aero as it looks like an upgraded the windforce and trying to decide if it is a good option. Some background - i have a nr200p case (itx); i only game up to 1440p and have no intention of ever going to 4k (i use 27 inch monitor) - my processor is an i5 or i7 approx 1 year old (my old mb died). I currently run windows 10 but i suppose at some point i will be forced to upgrade to win 11. My psu is corsair platinum 750 watt. Been a bit undecided if something like 6850 or 6950 or 3080 is sufficient upgrade given all my constraints.

(Since i'm open to an amd solution i posted this outside the nvidia specific area; but i'm really unsure here - my concerns are power consumption; adequate 1440p perf; case and mb size and psu limit since it is an sfx psu).

Yes. I have a 3070TI and it works great at 1440p and decent at 4K depending on the game. The 4070 is an even better card.

I went from a 3070 Ti to a 4070 Ti, and the new one smokes the old one by quite a bit :D

The hardware is ok, the prices suck.
Should i go with thne 4070 ti or 4070 ? they both have the same amount of vram but the 4070 ti is about $200 more - i think both will fit in my case and fall under sfx750 psu i have.

If it is in your budget, get the 4070ti. There is quite a difference between the two (depending on the game for how much difference).

Really tough to say, if you don't mind spending the extra, I would go for it. I bought mine during that big Prime sale a few weeks ago, literally hundreds of dollars off.. or else I would still be rocking the 3070 Ti. I think I ended up paying about 350 more for my 3070 Ti.. good deal in comparison..

Ok. I might wait for

How much was it during the prime sale? Just triying to get a price point - i suppose i should check part picker. I might wait till blackfriday/cyber monday but i think i'd like to get it sooner as i actually have one of those short 1070 with the vram issue that was fixed via a patch (they used non-samsung memory which didn't actually match specs). I guess they were called mini-1070 oddly the form factor vanished after the 1070 (the case i had back then required the shorter length).

As long as you know that the pricing sucks. The 4070 barely matches a 3080 from last gen when it comes to 1080p and 1440p, and drops off a bit at 4k due to the 192-bit bus. Its really misnamed and misbranded. The 3070 was able to match the previous gen's flagship, while the "70" card for the 40-series can barely hit the 3080 from last gen and yet commands another price hike? Talk about crap.

With that out of the way, one thing the 40-series has going for it is it's efficiency. So its basically a 3080 with 12gb at 200W. But I'd say its still kind of a ripoff price for what it is.

Honestly, unless you really care about DLSS 3 and Ray Tracing, I'd also look at 6950XT for basically the same price if your budget is around the $600ish USD range. In normal raster it would smoke a 4070. Though if you play RT, then 4070 would probably smoke it.

Yea i did some more reading and i think it comes down to the 6950xt or 4070 with the 4070 having a power advantage. So I think i'll just watch those two for pricing between now and black friday and maybe i can nap one for $550 that will fit in my case. I really like the 4070 power form factor.

Dlss2 also is better than fsr, keep in mind. The 4070 is a good deal, 3080 performance but lower power consumption, price, support for DLSS3, and more vram. For 1440p it's a great card. I'd jump to the 4070ti (entry level for 4k) or 4080 for 4k though.

Its more then enough, but if the game has no issues with the optimisation.

I built a new system a month or two ago and came from a 1070 non-TI and went with a FE 4070 non-TI and it's been great on my 1440p 144hz monitor. I would have looked more at a AMD card, but the bulk of my gaming these days is MSFS2020 (yeah, Im one of those ppl) and Nvidia is the way to go for that and will take those "fake frames" all day long in that. It's been a night and day difference with CP2077 too. I entertained the idea of the TI version, but that's starting to get expensive for a 12GB card. Not that the non-TI is exactly cheap either, but so far so good. Last brand new NV card I bought was a 8800GTS so eh, they got me.

I just need to see a good deal on an available card....

The 4070 is a great card, except for pricing.
3080 performance (and only ~6-10% less than 3080Ti), ~50% power usage, much shorter length and just 2 slots

Definitely keeping an eye on it as a upgrade path for my small eVGA 3060Ti

The quick search i did said the 3080 used around 304 watts vs the 4070 190 watts. I suppose this is 50% more for the same performance but will also put the sfx psu near the limit of what it can happen. I would think the additional headroom provided by the 4070 would be advantages in my case unless the 3080 is significantly less expensive to the point that i can replace the psu if it can't handle the strain.

However a quick checking on prices suggest the 3080 is more expensive than the 4070 at around the same performance. So the only + it seems to be providing is form factor or did i miss something ?

What's the price difference between the 4070 and the 4070 ti? It's about a 20-25 percent performance difference between the two. If the cost is more than 25 percent, I'd just get a 4070.

Using partpicker the current lowest 4070 ti is $789 (~800); the current lowest 4070 is $599.99 (~600) so $200.

Flip a coin brother haha, that's 25 percent on the dot. Maybe if one is a more reputable brand than the other it might alter your decision.
This, I had the same decision and ended up with the 4070ti which turned out to be a nice upgrade from my 3070. I'm running all my rig off a Corsair Gold 750w ps.

After dabbling with 4080/4090 cards, common sense prevailed and I decided to go for a much more budget friendly 4070 Ti... until the 7900 XTX prices started dropping. Picked up the Sapphire Nitro XTX for $1030 from Newegg about a week ago. At the time, XTX and 4070 Ti prices were only $50-ish apart. Now, 4070 Ti prices have dropped considerably. I'm thinking about grabbing an MSI or Asus Ti for $750-$800 and seeing how it compares to my XTX.
7900 and 4070 ti really aren't options due to power consumption. I personally think it comes down to 6950 or 4070.

Yeah, the power draw is my only gripe about the 7900. Driver updates are supposed to help. We'll see.

You really can't go wrong with the 4070 Ti. It got slammed by reviewers when first released due to the pricing and 4080-lite aspect, but it's a damn good GPU.
There was evidently another update to the power draw issue in the latest drivers, but they noted it's not entirely fixed still.

Hum the amd 7800 xt might be an option - .... maybe ?

The 7800XT might be worth keeping an eye on. Based on AMD's 1st party data (taken with a grain of salt) it should be a bit faster than 4070 and its a 16GB card. Even if it isn't much faster, its still $100 cheaper, so the 4070 may come down in price too - waiting if you can would be wise.

I have a RTX 4070 Founders Edition. I play at 4K 60hz. I previously owned 3090Ti/3090/2080Ti/Titan V and for the first time I decided to scale down and get the 4070 this time around (need $$$ for other toys lol).

The 4070 performs well in all of my games at 4K. I don't even need to use DLSS to get 60fps in 90% of my games. But with DLSS it helps reach over 60fps if needed. Card runs super quiet and power consumption is great.

You won't be disappointed at QHD resolution, even with a higher framerate.

My card is kinda crammed in a mATX build and it still runs cool.

I got a 4070 - love it, sips power 👌 - I play @ 1440p 165FPS (but in single player story games I might frame rate limit or Vsync to 60FPS - cause I don't care about high frames there and then the card is only using ~110-150 watts)
