Question about Debian

Debian login requires you enter the user name and the password. Is there any way to change this to password only? In other words, make it like all other distros.

There should be an option in the desktop environment for that somewhere. I'm guessing you're on Gnome? If it's not in the standard settings you may have to try Gnome Tweaks or Dconf Editor.

(Sorry I can't offer more, but I'm currently on KDE so it's different.)
 
You need a different display manager (that is the software that presents a graphical login and runs before your actual desktop).
 
Should have mentioned I'm running Debian Cinnamon, latest version. I know that Cinnamon isn't the problem as other Cinnamon distros don't do this.
