I'm in the process of setting up my rig to use four monitors. I've already got the monitor mount, two monitors, and two more on the way. Currently I use one 9600GT 512MB to run my dual 19'' monitors (One wide, one not, resolutions are 1440x900 and 1280x1024)

The monitors I am getting are a 20''ACER and a 22'' samsung, I plan on running both of those at 1680x1050.

The card I was going to get to power these monitors is a 8800GTS 640MB(G80).

What would be better performance-wise: The 8800 powering the 20/22'' monitors, and having the 9600 power the 19''ers, or some other combination?

9600GT512MB -> 19''WS@1440x900 and 19''@1280x1024
8800GTS640MB -> 20WS''@1680x1050 and 22''WS@1680x1050

it really doesn't matter which card you hook up the monitors to.
the only thing to be concerned about is making sure the more powerful card is running the monitor you will game on.
both cards can handle those resolutions with ease for desktop use.

i currently have 4 monitors hooked up as well. 24" samsung, 22" viewsonic on a GTX260 and 19" Dell, 15" samsung on an 8800gt.

I do some (read: light) gaming. I'm not the most knowledgeable on how the 8800GTS and the 9600GT compare, and I wanted to use the larger monitors for gaming.

The 9600GT 512MB is slightly faster than the 8800GTS 640MB. The difference is very small.
