Power supplies and dell/HP

Heres my problem... My dell has a 350w power supply in it, i've got a 550w power supply I want to put in that (dont have it yet going to pick it up from my friends house in a few hours).. simple question is the dell power supply proprietary? Should any other average power supply fit in there?

In addition to that, im going to put the 350w power supply in an older HP with a 700mhz processor to become a file server... should this fit into that?

Would need model numbers to give accurate assessment...I'm betting that old HP takes a micro ATX psu. I recently did a replacement for a friend with an Duron 1 Ghz HP Pavillion and it took a microATX($28 at the Egg)
