possibly dumb question... EMI from fans?

Do I have to worry about EMI or other problems related to placing a case fan in proximity to a hard drive??

Nope. Many cases actually have fans mounted within an inch of the hard drive.
Not that there's considerable EMI from fans, but the hard drive's case is aluminum, which is conductive, so it's inherently shielded.

Yep, I've run fans directly attached and in close proximity of HDs with no problems.
