Poor sound quality in flash videos.

Not sure what or when something changed, but suddenly my sound in youtube and other flash videos sound like garbage like it's streaming the lowest bitrate possible even when set to HD. Specifically voices and bass tones tend to sound muffled as if they are recording in a cardboard box with higher frequencies being reduced to the sound of aluminum foil being shaken violently, bringing back memories of downloading horribly low bitrate music from napstar/kazaa.

Tried a clean install of flash player but it didn't help. Any ideas?

Check to make sure your sound device isn't dying.

After that, do some checking on your connection.

Sound from spotify and games still sound perfect, even vimeo sounds good, but I was never on there enough before to know if there has been a change.

The picture quality on HD is as good as ever and not lagging/buffering so I think connection is good.

If it's just Flash - and HTML5/Silverlight/etc videos and other sources sound fine, I'd be pointing the finger at Adobe more so than anything.

May need to reinstall Flash, or find an alternative.

Clear your cookies. Sometimes they get corrupt and you get lowest quality everything as a result.
