pc locks up after a few mhz difference

i overclocked in increments of 2 from 166mhz and by the 2nd day i was at 170. later that day, the pc locked up completely, so i downed the clock to 168. the locking up still occurs now and i am back to the optimized defaults. i am very confused with what is happening inside this chip, any ideas on how to fix this?

no, there is no option for locking the pci bus as far as i know

set the PCI bus to 33 mhz and the PCI-E bus to 100 mhz manual that is same as locking them.
