Palladium makes a comeback!

This is at least the 3rd thread on the same subject. One is right on page one of this forum. :p

BTW, AMD, Sun, IBM and 150 other companies are all signed up in the "Trusted Computing Group". AMD pledged support for Palladium in 2002. It's only a matter of time before AMD releases their chips with DRM built in.

How will this stop somebody from downloading a file say "Windows2006_ISO.zip" and using it? Or is this just for music and movies?

It won't. The DRM in Palladium only works if the application and file format use it (i.e. DiVX, MP3, etc are unaffected). A future activation scheme might make pirating MS operating systems harder though.

For example, HD media using H.264 with DRM is an example of content that can be locked. User created H.264 videos without DRM will not be affected by Palladium.

This explains how it works: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/security/news/ngscb.mspx
