Need some help with a PC build from spare parts laying around the house. I just wanted to get an opinion on with s939 was the better cpu than an extra FX55 I have around the house. I do not think I will be overclocking much. Just need a 4th gaming PC for freinds and family during the holidays...

So guys - which will be better???

Opteron 180 - or - X2 4800+

I can get either for about $250~275, so price is not a problem...

Rest of PC parts:

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
2gb Corsair XMS PC4000
1 or 2 7900GTO ( don't know if i will be selling 2nd & 3rd 7900 GTO i have...)
2x WD Raptor 74gb SATA
2x Maxtor 500gb SATA ( maybe, don't know if these will be needed )
Audigy 4
NEC DVD Burner
Floppy drive
P & C Silencer 610w
Antec LanBoy 2 case - painted black

Only thing I want to upgrade is from extra FX55 to dual core CPU...

Any help would be appreciated...

They are both exactly the same at a performance level, so it´s up to you really.
I would go for the Opteron 180: the Opterons use to OC better, and though you won´t do it, you can always have the option to do it ;)

I saw them both at 299 so I bought the opteron. Definitely get that if it is either the 4800 or opteron. Newegg's AMD cpu prices are a bit screwy right now all across the board.

It's basically luck of the draw. You could get a dud Opteron and a killer X2 or the other way around.
