Office XP updates and patches?

First off, I'll start by saying that I DO have a legit copy of Office XP, thanks to my college and their software-obtainable programs that get them dirt-cheap for their students (YAY!)


Now, my problem is, I open up Word, TRY to update it, begin the download, but I CLOSE Word (cause it asks you to close all MS programs before install) and the install FAILS.

Is there a way to download and install the patch alternatively? Is there a mirror site that has these updates?

Have you tried going to Office Update. I have never had a problem updating using the site.
