Now BMW is Recalling 12,000 Diesel Cars Over Emissions

I never got the point of "rolling coal". It is up there with putting a spark plug in the tailpipe of an older car and then running it rich to make it shoot flame out of the ass end.

Diesel is harder to get the emmissions down on, but is more efficient in terms of MPG than gasoline. More therms in a given amount of diesel than in gasoline, hence you go further on the same amount of fuel with diesel.
There is a reason trains, ships, heavy trucks predominantly use diesel.
He said it in the post, the point is to piss off liberals. A lot of liberals want clean air, so if you're making it dirty on purpose, that gets them riled up.

This only affects a handful of vehicles since it's for the N57S. Apparently they used the software for the X5 M50d and X6 M50d on the M550d and 750d when they should have had their own variant.

In other words, they got a bit lazy?

It appears it had to do with software update procedures. The X5 M50d and X6 M50d have SCR systems in addition to NOx storage catalytic converters which allow them to meet emissions requirements, the M550d and 750d only use an NOx storage catalytic converter and the software for it is obviously different since it doesn't have a urea injection system. Originally they were equipped with the correct software but at some point in time when updates were made, they received the incorrect software. They're doing a recall on all of the N57S passenger cars to make sure they are all still equipped with the correct software.

Seems like a legit oopsie rather than a concerted effort to cheat the system then.
