Hi there,

I am building a new system AMD 64 3200+ etc etc

i've come to the ram and looking around i see DDR500 PC4000 and looking at mobo's i see none with this support? am i just not looking good enuff? any way my question is does PC4000 RAM work with a PC3200 mobo?

cheers,

eddie

no mother board curretnly suports anything that is not jedec speced. i dont know what the jedec spec is for ddr 2 but ddr 1 is pc3200. basically anything above pc3200 is just stating this ram is stable at this speed i.e pc3500(217fsb) pc4000 (250fsb) and so on. get some good pc3500 and youll be fine. any pc2100 up will work with your mobo so you can run any ddr memory up to the highest speed made in ddr1, but pc3700 and up use's lax timings and will hurt your mem bandwidth. at a minimum you want cas2 -3-3-6 for your board.

so a set of Corsair TwinX 1024 MB 4000 PT would be fine with a Asus K8V SE Deluxe ...?

edit: ok i'll lookf for some pc3500/pc3700

sure the pc4000 will be fine and if you want a synced fsb up to 250 then go pc4000, but i like the low latency chips and run my 64 outa sync. this way i get low latencies and a high htt bus

think i might just settle for pc3200 Corsair (TWINX1024-3200C2PT) 1024MB thx for ur help

if you can swing the extra dough get the xms3200xl it does extra low latencies at pc3200 speeds but can go up too and past pc4000 speeds with loose latencies. think it runs about 360 for a gig of the xl

i thought jedec never did get around to specing 3200... did they finally get off their collective butts?

the dual 512s are a great deal. go for it.

would u notice the difference between PC4000 and PC3200? i currently have pc3200 but not crosair, and am building a new comp.

edit:

here is spec so far:

AMD 64 3200+
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
180gb Serial ATA hdd
X800 Pro 256mb
12X DVD-RW

just the ram left, i am thinking Corsair PC4000, dunno tho.
