Haven't looked at hardware since 2016...

Buying a laptop,
Passmark scores i7 12800HX better than i9 13900H. I am going to use the laptop for content creation, Adobe After Effects, and Premiere Pro. Is one significantly better than the other? Using common sense I'd think the i9 would be better than the i7? Any wisdom?

Thanks!

That has to be incorrect, old data. I would search for 13900H reviews and look for that individual benchmark. 13900HX is just an unlocked 13900H - so you can use that safetly.

I don't trust those aggregation/ versus sites to be accurate, either.

The 12800HX is a 'special' SKU which is only i7- (rather than i9-) branded because it has 5MB of disabled cache. It has an unlocked multiplier and a 110W TDP and is designed for desktop replacements that would have once used socketed desktop processors.
The 13900H is a rather modest processor in comparison, designed for 15"+ laptops. The 12800HX is faster because most laptops that use a 12800HX will also allow sustained 100W+ operation resulting in much better multithreaded performance.
