Not impressed at all graphics wise, looks just like D3 with a mix of BF2, if not worse

I wasn't that impressed with the official screenshots
I wasn't that impressed with the Official videos, including the training ones
Same applys here, I agree it looks like doom3 just outdoors...

It's just going to be a smaller scale BF2.

These pictures are awful.

I certainly hope that the settings in them were at Super Low or something...

The settings were obviously turned down. I think we've all seen screenshots of this game that look WAY better than that.

I really can't wait for this game. I won't be much like BF2, other then a battle. Sure it'll be smaller scale, but the maps are made to cater to that, and everyone's focused on one objective, so it's going to be more intense then BF2/BF2142.

I'm significantly more concerned with how it plays than how it looks. I'd take a game that looks like Counter-Strike but has excellent gameplay over some artistic masterpiece that plays like shit.

Uhhh... You can tell that they were taken with no AA or AF. Wait until there is something more definitive than leaked beta screenshots taken on an S3 Virge.

lol yer that would be a good thing

iD are very tight-lipped about releases in fact you only know its been released something like a month before (suppose that way no "why has it slipped)
The three bits of information that have been released abt this game and being released are:

1) It will not be released before 1st April 2007
2) We will be playing this before QuakeCon 07 (4th Aug)
3) There will be a demo 1month before sales

So by the looks of things it aint gonna be released in April ( :( ) no word of demo at all
from teh last podcast I listened to it was more ballancing that was occuring, so I guess they were taking advantage of their publishers wanting to wait till after 1st April

Really looking forward to playing this. RTCW-ET was probably the most fun i've had playing a multi-player FPS since the early days of LAN party CS. BF series was fun, but ET was always the one i went back to. If they capture that same feel i will be back to playing online FPS's again. :)

damn guys stop bein so damn negative. this game is gonna fuckin rock just like ET does. will be worth every penny.

yup this game is going to be great!
the whole dynamic personal missions as well is going to be really involved

Quakecon is actually August 2nd - 5th. And do you have a source for this? I'd be overjoyed if I knew for sure that it would be out before Quakecon '07, since I'm attending.

agreed. ET was a great game and i cant wait to give ETQW a try:D i havent found a fun fps since BF2, which i am totally bored with at this point.

i just looked at the screenies and i have to agree that they are some BORING screenies. dont waste ur time.

i just got back into playing ET...i can tell some of my skill is comin back. guess all i needed was a 2 year break lol

Wow guys I am shocked at most of ya forgetting the classic line "killer Graphics dont = killer gameplay" I am hoping since the graphics are just ok, but the gameplay is being tweaked to make it a very nice game

Looks ok IMO for no AA or AF.

Its not going to be the most amazing graphics ever, but as said above, hopefully will have very good gameplay :)

Seems like a lot copied from the BF series though (at least from those screenshots)

The thing is, we have no idea what settings/hardware were used on the screenies. So it's impossible to come to a conclusion ;)

I can't wait for this game. It will be like the Battlefield, except without the shitty engine. Imagine being able to shoot people and actually have your bullets register correctly! Mmmm... ;D

As said before, graphics =/= good gameplay. As long as the game runs well its all good for me, and I've very good hopes this game is gonna have a killer gameplay.

These screens must be from a lower system, I just remembered watching that video from QuakeCon last year where they demoed the game with the developer's talking in the background, and the graphics from that demo looks totally nice. The coolest thing about this engine is NO fog of war meaning you can see all the way to the other side of the game, not like BetaField which fakes it with limited view distance

QFT, lol. :p

Not like Battlefield. I still don't understand why people say this. In Quake Wars you have 1 objective to do, not go capture any spawn point. The entire team must work together to complete a series of objectives in order. First construct the bridge, then escort the missile launcher across, then take down the shield, then launch a missile. Granted, that's just an example I made up, but I hope people understand.

Nein...not even close to Battlefield. The closest gameplay to it is RTCW and Wolf ET...which ETQW is based on in the first place. Class based objective game. Must use every class to win maps and requires more than killing skill.

Some maps will have a couple ways to the objective, others will follow a set path of things to do such as escorting a tank and blowing up obstacles in its way to get it where it needs to be for the mission to continue.

Class usage will prolly depend on maps, but you most likely will NEED Medics, Field Op-type players for calling in artillery, and Engineers to blow up obstacles. Using a Soldier class allows use of heavy weapons, and a Covert Ops/Scout class will allow for sniping or infiltrating areas where other classes can't.

With the size of the map that I saw in that overview vid awhile back, teams will prolly be around 8 players for ideal clan games. 6 was the magic number in ET. 5 was for RTCW.

And yes...I'm a Wolfy nerd. I played both RTCW and ET competitively for years lol. Years of my life gone just like that.

Imagine if you will:
1. BF series on an ID engine
--much better stability
--less issues[red teammate bug, anyone?]
--updated by people who care(Even if there were bugs like the red team bug, it would actually get fixed, not get worse)
--CROSS PLATFORM (Linux, OSX, and Windows)
--SMP
2. better gameplay mechanics
3. updates come in the form of replacing the main game executable, maybe a few libraries in the game folder, and additional pk4 files. No more off the problem prone updating that comes with the current BF series.
4. No CD checks about a month after release(although, considering how online oriented this will be, ID may sway the publisher to drop it altogether)
5. Highly supportive of mods, large and small
6. Updates will sometimes come with new maps and features for free(No more paying $10-$25 for a freaking map pack)
7. ID will likely open source the engine once their next-gen engine is on the market. Opening up the engine for independent projects using the same basic gameplay mechanics.

Now, all my assumptions are based on IDs track record for the past eight years, seems like a pretty good track record to me.

God I hope so. I've started playing W:ET just because I yearn for th ET game play..

just fyi about what I have heard from some beta testers: it still needs optimization but plays like the best of quake. it really is an ID game and not a BF clone.

The graphics are a lot better if the comp can handle it. Most likely this was an older comp running the game. We'll see better pics later on ;)

QFT - that's why i still play counter strike and GOW

Read bullet number two.

so you're still saying its BF...but just with better gameplay.

That makes it not BF. I enjoyed 1942 for awhile but it got boring. And they ended up not changing a single thing in terms of game play for the last 3 games (Vietnam, BF2 and now BF2142). Sure they can add another game mode here and there, but they're essentially the same. I guess they take "If it ain't broke don't fix it" seriously. Must be why they don't wanna support widescreen either . But that is another argument for another thread.

This game builds on what ET did. ET built on what RTCW did. I hate the fact that every class based FPS game seems to have to be compared to the BF games on some level. If anything RTCW took that gameplay where it needed to go. As I said before BF sure as hell didn't and they weren't willing to risk that cash cow of theirs to try something new either.

So if it is going to be compared to anything, it needs to be compared to the games it's built off to show whats been made better and whats gotten worse...though I doubt it has gotten worse. It will be interesting to see how the vehicles affect gameplay though. That is my main concern.
