looking for new PSU with active PFC and at least 85% efficent in the 500 to 600W range

What are the specs of the PC that you're planning on using this PSU with?
Also budget?

For that kind of setup, you wouldn't need anything over a 400W PSU. As such I recommend this PSU:
Corsair 400CX 400W PSU - $50

And you still haven't answered the budget question.

a pci - 8600 gt nvidea

Always Build with the Best!
Dave:)

higher wattage =!= greater reliablility. keep that in mind.

its like putting 91 octane or higher in a stock corolla... why would you do that? it doesnt even make use of the higher octane rating.

But, higher is better if you plan on ever upgrading in the future. Spend the money now.....instead of now and later. 75$ now < 40$ now 75$ later. My other system uses a Corsair VX550, great PSU, paid 75$
