so it's time for me to build a new PC it seems as though the PC in my signature is acting sketchy and is still running windows 7, i think now is a good time to build new.
the only thing i will be reusing are some hard drives , SSD's and for no w my vega64 graphics card.

list of parts i have chosen, what looks like it will not work together here, still need to get a copy of windows 10.

this build will be for random uses, gaming, media creation, general stuff, might be overkill but my last build lasted 10 years so i don't mind spending some money up front now to avoid having to upgrade later, but am open to all suggestions, price, ect.......

List out your parts, no one's going to go through a bunch of links to figure out what you're talking about.

If you used PC Part Picker then use it's BB code export function and paste it in.

Hard to say without details on the Media creation (some can advantage Intel, some would not mind a 7800x3d instead of a 7950x which is an interesting option to save money and gain performance in many games, make cooling simpler)

One possible if you need-want-go for a 16 core CPU road, 10 years on that platform will be about the 750watt PSU, what wattage the 9950x 24 cores and more so the GPU you want to go with will use, Corsair RM1000x is $20 more.

If you have no use for 10Gb/s networking I would think about putting that much on a motherboard (nothing wrong with it per say), but it goes with the impossible to tell depending on what you do and require to read the future, but that the first Gen5/DDR5 generation on the first AM5 bunch of motherboard launched when Intel was a bit down, will not surprise me if soon a $300 motherboard will be more interesting in some ways, but when was it not the case.... If your media creation is really light and expected to be, saving $200 on the CPU and another $200 on the motherboard (maybe even a little bit onthe cooling solution), open the budget for the new GPU

Outside the number of watt on the PSU depending on you plan for the GPU (would you be looking at high end used 3080-3090 ampere or 6950xt cards for example), not that it would not necessary work on the excellent 750watt PSU, GPU peak-spike consumption can change a bit from card to card, PSU real world limit from PSU to PSU label often are minimum guarantee, many would in many scenarios, but some in some case could cause issue and you are buying a new one anyway.

If by keeping it a long time, mean everything no CPU upgrade on the platform, the 14700k could be an interesting one to look at (770 fun igpu to have, 28 threads at a nice price point).

Agree that you might want to up the wattage on the PSU--850-1000. Most important part of the machine and no reason to skimp on it. Makes for easier upgrades down the road. Also, am a fan of AIO coolers. Have used them for several years now with no problems. Easy to install and work really nicely.

CPU: Looks like a good option if the primary use-case for this build is content creation (which appears to be the case). For primary gaming I'd switch to the 7800X3D (personally I'm ambivalent about the 7900X3D and 7950X3D). An Intel build, as mentioned, is also a good option.

CPU cooler: Thermalright is an all-around good choice. Not sure how well it copes with the 7950X, however, so see if you can find some reviews that utilize that CPU. Bumping up to a 140mm tower or a closed-loop AIO may be needed.

Mainboard: As alluded to above it's an expensive one. Does it really have features you need that can't be found on a less expensive unit?

RAM: Looks fine, 6000 is about the sweet-spot for current AMD CPUs. Though 64 GB is overkill if gaming is the primary use-case.

SSD: Currently the WD SN850X, SK Hynix P41, or Solidgm P44 are the top choices for OS/app drives, and generally cost around the same as that Sabrent.

Case: The Define series doesn't breathe as well as the otherwise-identical Meshify (but is still fine), and the XL version is huge. But case choice is very subjective so go for it if that's what you like best.

PSU: Kinda with everyone else on bumping to a 850+ W unit if you think you may be upgrading parts in the future (i.e., what do you anticipate replacing the carry-over GPU with and how much will it draw?).

I have seen people talk about that board on YouTube, had some issues with it maybe.

new parts list but still choosing power supply maybe, the first one i chose in on sale for $100 right now but perhaps i should spend more ??

PM me , I have a high end Seasonic 750 I can let you have at a reasonable cost that has very little time on it. I used it for a year while running a 3080 gpu but moved to a 1000 when I went 3090

thanks for the offer :)

so windows 10 or 11 which way should i go ?
and cheapest place to get a legit copy

i forgot, pro or home version, i always ran pro but what will i be missing from running home edition ?

i also posted this in video card forum, i was not sure where it should go, so delete whichever post ya need to........

so i have a new rx6800 card and a corsair rm1000e power supply, my question is the card takes two 8 pin connectors, the power supply also has 1 pci-e cable that has a Modular PCIe Cable (8-PIN) (6+2)/(6+2) which means the non power supply end has a pigtail with two 6+2 connectors. the card directions say to use "two PCI-e cables" so i can't use this cable with the pigtail right ?

i need to use the other two PCI-e 6+2 cables on card instead of one cable ?

i just want to make sure i don't over power the card and fry anything.

maybe i'm over thinking this LOL

The split connector should work and meets minimum specs. Using two cables is considered best practice especially if you intend to overclock. Why buy a nice GPU then cheap out on connectors?

I actually had to run the 4090 for a while with split connectors until I got a PSU that had the 12-pin connector for the "special" cable. It worked but I was not comfortable doing it.

Pretty much limited to Windows 11 these days as Microsoft has quit selling Windows 10. There may be some copies/keys around somewhere. I go with Pro for the extra settings and ability to limit ads from MS, especially. You can download Windows 10 from Microsoft and activate it with the 11 key if you prefer 10. I've stayed with 10 Pro as it is still supported for another couple of years. Will likely skip 11 as 12 may be on the horizon. Prices on 11 Pro run around $160; 11 Home around $130. Checked Newegg and Amazon on those prices.

More and more the difference got really thin if you do not mind messing around, for example one great new thing like windows sandbox:
https://beebom.com/how-enable-windows-sandbox-windows-11/

or hyper-v:
https://www.makeuseof.com/install-hyper-v-windows-11-home/

You can look at some list, but interpret the no for usually not out of the box wtih simple mouse click or not official support instead of necessarily unavailable:
https://www.xda-developers.com/windows-11-home-vs-windows-11-pro/

ads wise I am not sure there is a difference.

How to get Windows for free? Where is this possible? I don't know. Does anyone actually want to use Windows 11? Gee, I know I'm staying on Windows 10 as long as I can. Every computer I use still has Windows 10. Now don't go searching for ways to bypass using a key!

Not familiar with 11, but 10 Pro vs Home is something like: Pro gives you the ability to join a domain, group policy editor, Windows Sandbox, native RDP access to the computer (you can use RDP to access other computers from home, but not to access your own), Bitlocker encryption, Hyper-V, and 2TB of RAM support (Home is limited to 128GB). I think that covers most of it, might be missing a thing or two.

a picture before i do first bootup/install of windows this weekend, after i get her up and running i will install my 6.4TB fusion io card and hope the drivers work with windows 10. and plug in the other drives in back of case......
