nero not working!?

whenever i try to burn NRG files, it starts burning and prompts me with a "save image too..." box?! and then it says burning but no disc activity, almost like instead of burning its just burning to my hard drive? any ideas? possible virtual drive confliction? i mean i removed them all and still nothing.
