CPU: E8400
RAM: 2GB DDR2 667Mhz
Video card: 8800GT 512MB
Hard Drives: 2 SATA, 1 IDE
Sound card: X-Fi XtremeMusic
Power Supply: 500W Rosewill something or another.

I'm not a power user/overclocker or anything of the sort. I just wanna get my game on as easily, and as quickly as possible!

Another question: if I get the retail version of the CPU, will I still have to buy thermal paste?

retail core2duo's have the paste etched in a design on the bottom of the heatsink(curve on each side and a vertical line between them; the proper application for dual core proc).

Atleast e8400's retail do.

I've also seen in many threads people talk down on roswell psus... i'm sure someone here will elaborate further.

This is the closest I could come to for $100...

Gigabyte GA-P31-S3G - $64.99 ($7.59 S/H)
Rosewill R6423-P BK - $23.99 ($9.99 S/H)
======
Total - $88.98 ($106.56 with S/H)

Retail HSFs come with thermal compound, which is good for one use only.

Rosewill are poor PSUs for performance rigs... but which specific PSU do you have?

You talk about only having $100 available for a motherboard and case, yet you sound like you haven't bought the E8400 yet. What else haven't you bought?

$100 for case and mobo, with a $200 CPU? I think you need to change your CPU if you haven't bought it already. ;)

if youve already bought the cpu then i say wait for ur next paycheck and add 30-40 to get a higher quality motherboard
