Mother of all Dell laptop coupon codes 750 off 1500

I ordered my 600m this afternoon, 3 minutes before the coupon expired:

Inspiron 600m
Pentium® M Processor 715(1.50GHz/400MHz FSB) 14.1-in SXGA+, 64MB Video,
XP Home, 512MB, 40 GB HD, 24XCDRW/DVD, 1350 Wireless card.
$866 - $50 rebate = $816.

Okay, the problem is that since I had 3 minutes to order, I couldn't give much time thinking about the upgrades. However, I think I still may be able to call in and change my order a bit. I am considering to either upgrade to a 1.6 GHz Pentium-M or upgrade to a 60 GB HD. Either one will cost $43 more. Does anyone have any suggestions on the CPU or HD upgrade or anything else? I'm leaning more towards a HD upgrade because I don't know if there'll be that much more of a performance gain with a 1.6 Ghz CPU. What should I do??

Also, is there any way to stack more coupons with this or get further discounts by talking to a rep?

Thanks in advance,
DanMan101

^^^

Increasing hard drive rpm immensely helps a lappies percieved speed. i'd take that first, then a higher mhz cpu as a second choice. 512 memory is the sweetspot for that setup (btw).

There is no clear indication that the 60GB is a 7200 RPM drive. Does anyone know for sure? It it is not, is it still worth it?

Another question: what rpm is the included 40 gigger? if its 4200rpm, then even a 5400rpm is a worthy upgrade.

I hate dell for leaving out important specs like hard drive RPMs, and native resolutions of the LCD screens on laptops. You have to spend extra time researching to make sure you buy the right part from them. As seller they should be helping you to make the best choice.....most of the time it'd mean they would make more money.
HDs for instance, I'm sure people would rather have a 40 gig 5400 rpm drive over a 30 gig 4200 rpm, but you never know what your getting.

I guess I'll be giving Dell a call tomorrow...So what's the trick to get to talk to an actual human?

Those who ordered ...what are your delivery date looking like? I ordered around lunch time, and the Delivery Estimate: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 - Friday, November 05, 2004. I never expected them to take this long to deliver ...

My 9100 I ordered will be here "On or before October 27th, 2004"
My 8600 will be here "On or before October 29th, 2004"

Guess I got lucky! And no, these aren't going on eBay. I couldn't make a valid decision on which one I wanted more so one will be sold for what I paid for it to a good friend.

Good point...I don't even know what the 40 GB RPM speed is. Anyone know?
The standard 40GB/60GB/80GB drives are 5400 RPM, 8MB. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/5k80/5k80.htm . The 30GB drive is 4200RPM and the 7200RPM 60GB drive is explicitly labeled 7200RPM.

Dan UCF: there's a little n00b button that says "(?) Help me choose" right next to the options. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/lea...een&~line=notebooks&~mode=popup&~series=inspn And anyways the resolutions are pretty standard at this point between manufacturers since they use the same LCD manufacturers:
XGA 1024x768
SXGA+ 1400x1050
UXGA 1600x1200
WXGA 1280x800
WSXGA+ 1680x1050
WUXGA 1920x1200

unfortunately the n00b button for hard drives is wrong or outdated: http://www1.us.dell.com/content/lea...otebooks&~lt=popup&~series=inspn&~tab=details . At minimum the drives will be 4200RPM (30GB only now). The 40GB/60GB/80GB are the Hitachi models (5400RPM, 8MB) I linked above. I don't believe there are any 100GB 4200RPM drives.

My 600M came with a 4200rpm, 2mb cache, 40GB hitachi. I replaced it a while back with a 5400 rpm 8mb cache 40gb drive and the performance increase was quite noticeable.

I'm looking to trade a 8600 512meg 1.6 WSVGA 9600 Pro turbo and maybe some cash for a 9100 w/ the 9700 in it.

PM me

I am crying because I didn't get in on this. Yesterday I checked a customized laptop and decided at $1100 I still didn't have enough money for it. But... then today I saw how some people customized their's for ~750 and I REALLY would have done it. Crying....

I ordered mine yesterday. Scheduled ship date 10/29. I did not know about the HDD speed however. I only got the 30GB drive. Hopefully it does not drag a$$ too much. If I had known I would have gotten the 40GB unit.

I noticed the same $14 discrepancy in my confirmation e-mail. Mine should have been $765 and it was $751. Mine is a i5160.

not a bad deal...just sold my HP for $800 so I'm getting a great upgrade for $651

very happy

yuppers, same discretion. i split the charges between 2 cards cause i have been on business the past week and maxed most of them out. charged $800 to one, but only charged me $784. No complaints, sweet deal. my brother got his laptop from HP a few months back on the $599 deal, and he is kicking himself. Hopefully they will deliver it to my woork instead of apt.. i hate waitng 3 extra days just to go pick it up myself b/c they require signature.

i meant to ask, what was the difference between the two wireless options? it was like $35 v/s $69 or something, but both were B/G?

the real question is:

So whats the trick to get to talk to someone who can speak some english that you can actually understand.

freakin' Dell and their outsourcing to India pisses me off.

Funny, since Dell said they stopped using India' call centers, due to large number of complaints.

And I found this true, since whenever I've needed to call them I always get an American person on the phone.

the only article I've seen that mentions a shift from India's call centers has been in relation with Corporate customers, NOT standard retail

The second one also has 802.11a as well. that's at 5gig where it is not as crowded.. personally I find it useless as most places (and my house ;) )have b/g setup.

Im about to cry. I would sooo not mind a laptop right now, and i miss this!!!! What are the chances that dell will have a simialr sale soon?

Personally, I doubt Dell will have as good of a sale real soon, at least, not for the i9100. It seems to be gone for good. A Dell rep I talked to told me they were clearing out stock of the i9100 for the Inspiron 9200 coming soon. I didn't believe him till they removed the i9100 from there website. When I asked about it, they confirmed that they were phasing out the i9100. The i9200 sounded nice though, 17" screen among other things.

As for non-DTR, the intel Alviso chipset is right around the corner (Q1 2005), so you might find another nice sale around Christmas, but this was one of the best deals they've had in a long time.

If you use their jukebox as a judge, they will use it again, and soon, but this almost seemed too good to be true. although the jukebox coupons were around 25%-35% discount, as were the top of the line laptop coupons were about the same thing. You be the judge

P.S. I am not a math major and i just typed his in 30 sec with guess about the figures, sorry if in a little off.

u lucky bastard's lol. I was looking for a small laptop like the 600m. Hopefully some good sales will come around chirstmas time.

status says mine's currently in the boxing stage, and should be shipped on the 26th, received on the 29th.

with my previous experiences with dell, im suprised its going this quick, considering how many orders they probably had tuesday.

yeah, crap, i'm still in the imfamous "In Production" Stage. well looks like i'll have to wai another week for it. I was looking forward to using it on a raod trip this weekend.

Well they seem to have taken all my orders for my
Inspiron 9100
Inspiron 600m
Inspiron 1150 (x3)

so I am pretty happy (as well as a lot of my customers :)

You just missed another good one that ended on 10/20. There was a coupon for $450 off any 600m/700m purchase. I recommend you browse Ben's Bargains and [H] on a regular basis so you don't miss the next mega deal ;).

Keep in mind that the Black Friday sales are coming so you can pick up a dirt cheap lappie then. I think it was compusa that had a nice mid-range lappy for $400 last year .Good luck and i'll try to post any great lappie deals i find (since i rarely do)

Edit: Woot! [H]ardness Supreme :D

Well the 9100 is gonna have a place of honor in my living room so my wife will quit bitching at me about being in teh office all the time. The rest of them are for customers that were looking for a good deal on laptops (and happily thru it all paid for my 9100 as well) :)

same here, my portable HTPC for now, until i finish my current project. Liiving room surfing, cause i think my leather chair in the bedroom has permeneant cheek impprints.

Does anyone who purchased an 8600 have one for sale?

I "purchased" one on e-bay and it was to be delivered friday, but the guy this morning confesses he never had it in stock and so now I'm stuck laptopless as I just sold my I8200 the other day in preparation for the one on friday.

If anyone has one Please let me know as I need one ASAP.

I'm looking for anything including and above:
1.5Ghz, WUXGA, Internal b/g.

Thanks,
Jason

I got an 8600 but it doesn't have the wireless option on it. They put a 1.60Ghz instead of the 1.50Ghz that I ordered in it! :D

I have to give first dibs on the notebook to my sister and an uncle but if you want, i'll keep you in mind. Probably like $850/$900 if that's ok with you. I can't remember if this was the more expensive one or the 9100 was.

I love this thing. Got it monday night. annd spent that whole night getting rid of bloatware, and installing my system programs. I havennt gotten to run any games yet, but i'm installing Far Cry this evening to see how the mobiel 9700 handles it. Compared to the gforce2mx in my desktop, it should scream. Gonna play with the video out as well to see if it cann substitute for an htpc until i finish mine. Wireless has reasonable reception, but i'll agree with many others, battery suxors
