Monitor Arm - Clamp or Bolt Through ?

Never owned an arm before. I have an oak desk with a 2 inch lip around it. What is better, more secure, or more stable; the clamp or bolt through? Not sure I like the idea of drilling a hole through my desk but if it is a small hole................!

Any thoughts or info?

Am shopping around for the arm. This one was posted on here and it caught my eye.

It is a Humanscale M8. Should hold a Dell U3011 with ease.
 
I have a couple of ergotron arms. One is clamped to the back of the desk and the other is bolted through near the right side. Both ways work perfectly fine.
