Help for a friend again: (sorry if this is in the wrong place - I really suck at figuring out where schtuff goes)
He says that he dials up (shudder), and that he surfs the web with ease, but whenever he tries to access any secure sites (i.e. https or ssh) it kicks him right offline.
Could this be a driver issue?
