Looking for Z97 board around $150

You cant beat the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, for 129USD its a great pick.
If you fancy something even more complete maybe, Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 or ASRock Z97 Extreme6 for litle more than 150 USD.

I'm using Z97 Extreme6 atm , Love the colors, going for a black and blue theme just looks awesome, and it has lots of I/O. Supports SLI and Crossfire . It's rock stable. The BIOS/UEFI is easy to navigate, and for the most part pretty intuitive.

Theres actually a lot of good Z97 boards out there for a good price just depends on form factor and whether you want it for gaming or high oc.

love my Asus Z-97A

Agreed. run it stock or use all the overclocking features to take it to the max. There isn't much in the BIOS you can't adjust and all the drivers are mature and work. It also got the [H] Gold rating.

Hard to beat for the bucks.

Thought one...but MSI Z97-G45 Gaming or Extreme 6 are nice. Get which ever one fits your overall look better ;)

their board material is thinner and has a frightening amount of flex.

Theve been know for that for a while.

As long as you dont manhandle it, im sure it will be fine.

@ ocer9999

Exactly what are your requirements (plan to overclock, lots of drives etc?) and what are you going to run (Windows, Linux, *)?

Hey everyone, don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm looking for a similar priced board for my build. I just purchased an i7 4790k. It's my first desktop intel cpu. I've always been an AMD user just due to cost, but now that I'm out of school and making actual money I don't have to sacrifice performance for cost anymore lol. I'm actually looking forward to tossing my 8350.

The company I work for provides a reimbursement of 20% of total cost for personal computer / part purchases. However, they only approve reimbursement for Asus motherboards. I'm trying to stick to ~$150. In terms of my usage, I have a Corsair H80i in my rig now, so I'd probably do some slight overclocking. The board would need to be CFX compatible because I'm running 2 R9 290's.

I'm currently stuck between the Z97-E, Z97-A, and the Z97 Pro-Gamer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think I got the Z97-AR which is the same as Z97-A minus some extra ports in the back (HDMI+Displayport). I actually got the 4690k + Z97-AR for around $270 on Black Friday weekend at Microcenter. Crazy good deal.

Hell yea! Got to love those deals eh :D

I think you must be talking of another time period. I have ASrock Z77 Ex4reme4 and 6 plus Z97-Extreme4.

They are thick heavy MB's that work great.

I have had the ASRock Extreme6 for a couple weeks (yeah I know not long) - but I like the features for price point. And I didn't feel that it was too flimsy when I was installing it. Just a personal opinion.

probably fixed it with the new series.

They were always known in the past to be flimsy.

Would recommend Z97 EXTREME4. Paired with an i7-4790S (BX80646I74790S) and two Kingston 16GB kits (HX318C10FK2), this is totally stable and very fast. The UEFI BIOS isn't buggy and POST time is fast.

MSI Gaming 5... loving this board so far... Why are you recommending such stuff ohenryy? haha... For the extra few bucks get a K.
