Looking for the best headphones under $100

Grado sr-80 x2. These are very much regarded as the best phones in their respective price ranges. I have a set of 225s and I love them.

I second that. The Grado SR-80 will easily beat a $700 home theater setup for music reproduction when it's properly driven.

alright, I will look into to those but why 2?

What do you plan on using them for? Whats your source? My usual <$100 recommendations are Sennheiser HD497 & HD280 and Alessandro MS-1, Grado SR-80 if you can stand the highs and dont care much about soundstage.

I'm gonna be using them for gaming and listening to music on my computer and a mp3 player when I find a good one

oh man! the 280's look sexy O_O

I have a set of Grado SR80s and Ive yet to hear a better sounding headphone for the price. Ive had mine for a few years and they still sound just as good as they day I bought them.

HD280s then! Grados Prestige line (60, 80, 125, 225, 325, MS1, MS1) suck with the sound positioning. ;)

Pretty long from what I remember, I dunno the exact measurement though.

It's way longer than any sane person would need for a computer setup. My guess, from memory, would be at least 10ft. I remember it getting annoying.

I previously had the HD-497 (still have them but the cable is shot, no abuse, the left connector just went out) and now have the HD-280 Pro and I love them. They isolate a lot of noise, bass is amazing if you equalize, and generally very accurate and nice to listen to. I use them for music and gaming, and love 'em for both. Recommended.

i hear the icemat siberia's not only offer excelletn sound quality to the point where the guy reviewing them wished he hadn't spent $300 on his specialist sonys ad gotten the siberia for a quarter of the price. Also, they look great, have a top-noth integrated mic and are apparently the most comfortable headphones in da world - light and fluffy, didn't know he was wearing them.

I've had my HD497s for quite a few years now (10 ft cable I believe) they are great and all but with a $100 budget I would spend an extra few and get the ATH-a500 from Audio-Technica. I guess it really depends on if you have really decided that you are going to define your budget at exactly less than $100 or not. If it were my choice I'd stretch it just a little and go with those. But then you run the risk of asking your self "I've already stretched it 5 bucks why not stretch it another 100 and get the ATH-a900s for $200" then you'll never wonder what you were missing :))))

I have Sennheiser HD497s too. They can be had for ~$50 these days and they sound great. They are also very easy to drive so they generally don't require an amp like some other comparable models.

The cord also went out on mine after about 3 years. I ordered a replacement from Sennheiser and now they're back in business.

I like the HD280, which I think is cool. Haven't tried the HD485, HD515, and MS-1 but they have ok reviews and are under $100. HD497 is aging, there are better alternatives to it and the SR-60 now.

Of the potential candidates I've only the heard the MS-1's, but they really do sound great regardless of price range, and are a better buy than the SR-60's, 80's, or 125's. If you're a rocker these will not disappoint.

Yeah I change my recommendation. Allesandro MS-1's look like the best buy right now since they're basically just an upgraded Grado SR-125.

If you get the MS-1's they might be a bit uncomfortable at first so stretch them out a bit and they'll fit like a glove.

<$100 headphones?

I would definitely recommend the Sennheiser HD555. These are 169$ at best buy, but they can be had for about $110 on ebay. Hands down, better than the 497.

Sometimes, newegg drops their 555 price from 149 to 99, if you're lucky.

Allesandro MS-1 ? I can't seem to find them on ebay, froogle or google. Gives me options like allessandro or alessandro but still no product results. any ideas?

You could run through the headphone selector wizard at headphonereviews.org. That might give you more ideas.

You probably wont find them on Ebay or Froogle, the above website is the only place I know that sells em. Its a really small company too.

thanks for that link. also, would the bithead amp/soundcard by head-room be a sufficent amp for those 'phones? I'm looking at pairing that setup with my laptop, mainly for at home use.
