I have just built my first gaming rig in 14 years. Played a ton of MOHAA and BF2, but haven't played anything since those games. What are some fun games I have missed in the past 14 years I should give a try?

Quake 3.

Edit: to clarify, there is nothing wrong with living in the past. Enjoy the classics.

I'd like to call out Bioshock Infinite. I got it bundled with an amd gpu back in the day when I built a gaming pc for the first time in years. It was the game that got me back into gaming.

where should I start buying some?
PC gaming takes place primarily between a few distribution platforms which you should download, install, create an account on, (and ideally enable 2 factor authentication on also). They each have a local client which will keep your games up to date etc.
You can download the client from their website, eg. Steam, EpicGames, Origin, Uplay, Battle.net, and GoG are probably the most mainstream ones. Steam and epicgames are probably a good start, the others you can install when you specifically need a game from their library.
