How do I beat slayer's raining blood? Secondly, how do I do it without making it look like im pleasuring my guitar's neck in a very inappropriate way?

(assuming expert difficulty)

Getting past the mosh sequence of Raining Blood was a miracle for me. It brought back nightmares of those full runs in Jordan or Solo J in Freebird. You need to enter that mosh sequence with your rock meter full and engage star power only when you are about to fail. You can't survive on star power alone, so you have to learn how to play some of it. How much of it depends on how well you play it. Although I hate practicing, this was one of those times I forced myself to do so.

What I ended up doing is practice that note sequence (because it's etched in memory now) while the game's loading a song. If you can get the hammer-on timings right, you'll set yourself with the skills to pass that part, which imo, is the hardest part of that song.

Once get past that mosh sequence, you should have no problem with the rest. I mean, if you got through the solo bits in One, there's no excuse for handling things past the mosh.

Once you beat Raining Blood, congratulations. Now you've jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Have fun choring through Devil Went Down to Georgia to Buy Some Prada Boots. Raining Blood was at least predictable.

Geez... I just looked up a youtube video of this song on GH3, and I gotta say... it's actually easier to play on real guitar than GH3.

I've 5 star'd raining blood on medium, 4 star on hard, and it took a lot of practice. I had to really learn the mosh part, starting with slowing it down, and then grinding the button sequenceover and over... last was getting the timing down, and I still screw up the song, if I'm half a second offtime.

Through the fire and flames... however, makes me want to smash my little guitar controller against anything within reach. :p

Thanks for the tips, but I was talking about hard mode. The mosh is the one getting to me and I'm not sure if I should be doing pull offs or slides (slides make it look like im jerking my guitar off but it seems to have the better timing).

The expert song I'm stuck on is the tenacious d one. It wasn't a problem in hard mode since I didn't have to concentrate, but my focus breaks on expert.

Jack black is just fucking retarded. When he thinks he's being funny with his disingenuous slur (think how ben stiller always talked in zoolander. it's kinda hard to articulate it in writing, but it's a tone that says "I'm desperately trying to be cute, look at me! I want daddy's love but since he died over an overdose, I find it by sleeping with 5 men in a bukkake orgy"), it just makes me think of nacho libre and I want to punch him in the face. Secondly, when I get past all that bull crap, he does this onomatopoeia where he's all like "neerooo, nereeerraaaa, neeeeeeruuuuuuuu" and it makes me want to strap him down, cut his dick off centimeter by centimeter and feed it to him until he passes out from delirious pain where I would then cease, help him recover, and do it all over again with a different organ so he doesn't die in one sitting. God, I can't believe people think this motherfucker is funny.

Jack Black you motherfucker. You are not funny. Take your fucking dumbass song out of guitar hero 3 you fucking douche bag. Worst of all, it's in legends of rock!?!??! Instead they should have added a downloadable bonus pack dubbed legends of cock and put your faggot ass song in with the theme from Barney and friends, Go Go Power Rangers, and a musical compilation of gay porno moans with mandingo boning peter north and drinking his cum on stage as a proxy for the drumset.

No jack, you're not fooling anyone since those things u call testicles are just ovaries that you dug out of your vagina and your genetalia is the product of steroid treatments (a la wwf's chyna).

Anyway, are there videos showing how to properly time the mosh? Every you tube clip seems to be centered on a television screen rather than the guitar heroist. It really pisses me off that I worked at it for at least 20 minutes going from slowest to slow at 90% or more, only to get 50% at full speed. My only option left for nailing it is to physically see how it's done.

PS: I only watched school of rock because of that hot girl on the bass guitar/ cello. Speaking of school of rock, I think you're secretly that girl who became popular on niklodean (sunshine or some hippy name was her character). You're both little immature ♥♥♥♥s who think they are cute and only fucking high, retarded children who watch spongebob think you're funny. No, you/her are worse than that because I have actually sampled your live action lineup with that gay drake and josh show. I am at a loss for words right now. Just coalesce in some kind of suicide booth with Andy milanokis, Jay Leno, the entire cast from all of nikleodean's live action shows, the simpsons and every other entity that think it's funny but really isn't. I don't care how all of you kill yourselves. Just do it for society's sake. Once the retarded lose their only entertainment, they will be forced to kill themselves too, leaving earth populated by a race of super smart individuals (AKA asians because the ones who watch dragon ball Z will be dead).

In fact, you're so gay Jack Black that the mere thought of you keeps driving me to add more reasons why people should hate you via several consecutive edits on a hardware forum of all places.

Here's the song in question for expert. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=k7GF56tAPDA warning, gayness incarnate at 1:06

How do I pass this song without feeling the intense urge to shoot jack black or myself?

As for the slayer song, my extensive searches have not lead to a visual guide to beating this song's mosh portion.

I did all the easy songs without failing one, even my first.

I did the first 6-7 medium song without failing one

Then they chuck up a battle to beat a boss, unfortunately if you dont beat him by the end of the song, you lose by default which is totaly retarded.

Can't beat it in about 8-9 trys.

The difficulty ramping on the game is totaly off, suddenly throwing an impossible boss at you in the middle of an easy set of songs is just completely idiotic, I enjoyed playing the game up until now, now It just makes me angry to think I can't go any further because they made 1 battle so damn hard.

What are you talking about in that video? The link you have at 1:06 has a pause in the song. Did you mean the triple note chords before 1:06 or the slightly confusing solo section afterwards?

As for Mosh 1 of Raining Blood on expert... it is the one song that will keep me from getting my guitar hero 3 "log" for a long time (I'm referring to 5-starring all songs on expert). I currently have a 4 star on it and am taking a one month break so that my tendonitis has a chance to heal. Here is the guide I'm going to use to help me achieve the 226.5 or so k I'll need to 5-star it: http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35238

I never really had a problem passing Raining Blood. I beat it on my sightread, albeit with a 3-star.

EDIT: Just read that you need help for beating this on hard, not expert. My best advice would be to suggest that you 5-star all the songs on hard first. That will give you something to work on and your skill will increase in the process.

In addition, the techniques section of scorehero.com is a wonderful way to bond with others who share your plight. http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

One of the latest Family Guy episodes (the one where Stewie kills Louis) parodies Jack Black perfectly.

But as far as GH3 goes... they wouldn't happen to let you rent this game (with the guitar) would they?

I had this problem too. Easy was way too easy. I could pass almost all the songs on medium in 'quick play' mode--but as soon as I got to Tom Morello--I spent hours trying to beat him. This is what I figured out:

Save three of your whammies, up difficulty, etc. for the very last part when he's going to drain you. Hit one--wait for it to start messing him up--then hit another, then the last. He will go down quick. I did the same thing for Slash.

I'm up to Lou now, but this technique does not seem to work for him.

Funny how boss battles are easier because there is more notes for the boss to mess up on. Most of the time, a well placed whammy bar in expert will win it for you alone.

Monkey_feces tried to kill The Metal, but he failed as he was struck down to the ground! :D

anybody know some good GH strategy guides? I am trying to improve my skillz... been playing on medium and almost got it beat. Hope to someday throw down with the hard level, lol.

Seriously.... I've been playing medium and things like the guitar solo in slayer is next to impossible on medium unless you can move your fingers like road runner.

This has actually upset me to the point of not even wanting to play it anymore due to the steepness the game gets so quickly on the difficult rating.

As someone mentioned, getting past Slash on hard was tough, until I figured it all out... All you have to do is collect 3 attacks and hold your own until he gets to the part at the end where he starts to drain you, then unleash the first, wait until its over, then the second and third the same way, his rock meter drops to red in seconds...

Last night I 5 star'd all the medium songs including all the bonus songs and co-op bonus songs... Medium songs are all pretty easy except for raining blood and that F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X bonus song, which I found to be the most annoying song to play in GH3.

Hard however is kicking my ass... I have mostly 3 stars with 3 - 4 songs at 4 star, but thats it... I got past slash on hard, and the next 4 songs I cannot complete at all... I tried them all 3 times and couldn't get past any of them.. the 3 button chords and random single buttons absolutely mess me up... I've tried sliding my fingers up on some songs, but when the green button comes along at random times, every finger is now pressing the wrong button, and I don't have time to look down to see what to hit next...

Thats my biggest problem with GH3 so far, is that the difficulty from medium to hard on most songs is jacked up to the point where its hard to get used to that 5th button when they suddenly add that AND more complicated chords and speed...

Anyone wanting to know a tip for practicing the 5th button is to play co-op with bass guitar on hard first... Go online and pick hard bass and you will find the songs throw in the 5th button much less than if you were playing guitar... Playing the songs on hard bass has been much easier than any of the guitar parts on hard, so I suggest trying out the bass on hard first to get more aquainted with that annoying orange 5th button...

I'm having a bit of a tough time on One (the solo at the end) and Raining Blood (mosh 1) on expert. I'm just dreading the final battle against Lou...

For those of you who are stuck on medium difficulty, all I can really say is learn how to use hammer on's. They're the notes with the white caps. You'll notice normal notes have white caps with black rings on the top, the hammer on's lack this black ring. This allows you to only strum once and then just press the buttons for the next sequence of notes that have this white cap.

The ps3 uses glowing keys to signify this and normal notes are just a solid color.

There... there really aren't many people who can 5-star "Raining Blood" on expert. I'm in the top thousand or so for expert scoring, and I just can't contort my hand(s) wickedly enough to make it happen. My best advice for people who want to at least PASS it:

Try to hit all four notes on the first pull-off (I actually just slide my fingers down the notes for most pull-offs, really... though definitely NOT in this case), and then the first three on the second pull-off. You won't have to move your hand much to do this (just your fingers... good luck!), and you'll hopefully be able to get at least the majority of the notes.

Best of luck to you all!

Thank you for this rant! It truly was a joy to read. I liked Jack Black in School of Rock :)eek:) but since every movie past that, I can't stand him.

Oh well, I'm still having a bitch of a time with One on medium

My friend lent it to me for 1 day only, so I unlocked all the songs on medium to play "through fire and flames"

Medium is a piece of cake, but I couldn't beat hard. Do you guys strum up & down?

Err how did u get past Lou then? I initially single-strummed until the latter part of my career (where I found it was just getting to tiring). I think if you don't adjust to double-strumming, you're not gonna last long in hard. Mind you it took me quite a few songs to wrap my head around double-strumming. I'd say at least 15-25 songs for me. In the end though, I think my muscles still think of it as strumming (just that my index finger is doing it first) vs. holding both my index/thumb finger together -- I only do that for quarter/eighth/16th note sequences.

Lol there is that one bonus song that switches from the "1,2,3,4" to the "1+,2+,3+,4+" and double-strumming is really nice for those sequences.

Last night I 5 star'd all the medium songs including all the bonus songs and co-op bonus songs... Medium songs are all pretty easy except for raining blood and that F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X bonus song, which I found to be the most annoying song to play in GH3.

FCP Remix is one of the favorite songs - nice warm-up for sure haha.

If you beat the game on medium and unlock fire and flames you can just play it on any level in quick play. I just beat the game on hard last night. Lou was such a bitch, took me like an hour to beat him. Then I went into practice mode and did fire and flames on expert just to rock it.

I am a single strummer that needs to learn how to double strum in this game badly.

I have fivestared all main songs on medium. And through the fire and flames is quite literally PAINFUL to play through. And not because of my strumming hand.

"My Curse" (expert) is a great song to double strum on. Single strumming the intro and that long repetitous ending always result in my hand tensing up. Learn to double strum there and the the tension goes away. Trust me.

Depending on the song, double strumming can make an otherwise tough song more relaxing. There's less (half at best) motion involved with your hand.

There's nothing like 4x'ing those fast picking runs in "Knights of Cydonia" all the way through.

Woo hoo, i just best One and Raining Blood today on expert (on my first shots on them no less!). Now I just have to beat Lou, that's gonna suck...

Yup, it's pretty much the only way.

I've single-strummed my way through the game in guitar-hero2, and managed to receive 5 stars on most of the experts..
I find that double-strumming catches me off-guard, landing me in a "up position", it throws me off. I guess I'll have to start practicing up-down's on some of the easier song then, if it's the only way to progress farther into GH3.

For slower parts from (0:00-0:26) & (1:00-1:14), do you do up-downs? I usually get note-streaks on these parts with down-downs, but I find it tires me out really fast.

Personally, I pretty much alt strum everything because I'm used to it from playing real guitar. Only time i down strum is some songs (or parts of songs) where is mostly HOs/POs

For those sections you mentioned I would strum just down for 0:00 - 0:26 time (I can strum fast and not get too tired). for the 1:00 - 1:15 I would definintely strum up and down.

I'm stuck on Knights of Cydonia on hard... i just can't seem to get past the section "Galloping Triplets". I've gotten within 4 notes of beating it only to fail the song..... it's making me want to stab myself with an eggbeater.

the rest of the songs in that tier don't seem so bad... i got like 96% through "3's and 7's" on my fourth try, so I know I'll beat it.... it's just the one section of the one song I can't beat.

See if you can beat my 30+ tries. No other song took me more than 2 tries to beat on expert, other than TTFAF which had to be over 100 tries.

Looks like you're better with chords than HOPOs. Lots of people are the exact opposite. I'm equally adept at each. I've only played the hard version of 3's & 7's once, but I'll assume the triplets you speak of are at the end of the song. Are you HOPOing those or are you trying to strum each note? If it's the latter, you have to learn how to HOPO. It releases the focus on strumming and allows you to focus on the fretting.

Practice makes perfect. You will limit your skill potential if you don't learn how to up-down strum (technical term is "alt-strumming"). You say you received 5 stars on most of the experts. I bet I know at least 3 of the songs that you didn't 5-star that pretty much require alt-strumming (Misirlou, The Light That Blinds, Six). Oh and, yes, I have the log.

I was at the border of top 500 in expert 2 weeks ago and I can't 5-star RB. It will be the Misirlou of GH2 for GH3. I have 185k or so, and the 5-star cutoff is around 227k. Though I havne't put much practice work in it, I feel like it will take me longer than Misirlou, with practice, to 5-star. Perfecting Mosh1 & Mosh2 just isn't going to happen for 99.999 percent of the guitar hero population. So for us mortals, we'll have to perfect everything in between the Mosh parts. Unfortunately, I'm not that great at the other parts either, so it will take much practice. Your technique will get you through, but you will miss the star power on the first 16 notes or so of Mosh 1. Probably want to try to pick up that SP.
