Laptop recommendation

Hey guys,
Friend of mine wanted to buy a laptop, but wasn't sure which would be the better buy. So I figured I would ask the pros here at HardForum. He will be using it mainly for music/music editing/basic multimedia/web surfing. His budget is $600 max. He plans on buying it from Bestbuy with his Best buy card.
Option 1:

Those are two laptops he was interested in so far that is under $600.
Out of those two, which would be the better buy? And, also are there other laptops available within above budget ($600) and sold at Best buy that can offer more bang for his buck? Appreciate your advice/help!

Now again, from the two laptops that I linked here which would give the better bang for his dollar? He wont be gaming much if at all with it he has his 360 for that. He would just like a generic laptop that he can put music on and go on facebook, possibly burn cd's. Battery life isnt an issue.

You really should ask the question on the NB review forums, it's a better place, the people over there are better educated on laptop choices.
