Laptop LCD problem - stuck line of pixels

I have an HP NC6320 laptop I use for my workhorse programming machine.

Yesterday, the display developed a light blue line of pixels running from top to bottom of the display, the width of a single pixel. The line disappears against a white background and is most visible against a black background.

I would like to know whether this is likely to be the inverter or the panel itself? Is there likely to be an easy fix, or should I just go ahead and spend $90 on a replacement panel?

If its a full line it could be a bad connection in the panel or in the panel signal cable. Try tapping it around the sides and see if you can get it to change.
