Laptop crashing

i just got this laptop from my dad and it keeps crashing, its about a year old, its a 1ghz athlon. im thinking its getting too hot because there is a fan underneath not running and it crashes after running for awhile and then you have to wait for a bit to turn it back on. are there any programs out there to detect laptop cpu temps?

I'm having pretty much the same problem! If somebody finds out a way to fix this problem, that would be great!

Failing that, open 'er up and get that fan spinning, and see if that helps.
