I'd been waiting for these to drop in price to upgrade to 2x32gb of memory and to have ECC. I ran my Zen 2 setup with overclocked ECC memory and will do the same with my Zen 4 setup.

ECC should work on the Ryzen 7000 series as long as you have an Asus, Gigabyte, or ASRock motherboard with a somewhat recent BIOS.

It's my understanding that heatspreaders don't do very much. I'll see if it ends up being a problem once I receive my sticks and install them.
exactly. If it was detrimental to it's performance they would be on there.

thanks for the link, just ordered x2 for a 13700k DAW/Workstation build.

has equally as much to do with longevity, they may perform fine but for how long? ddr5 tends to run hot.
idk I would think if OEMS running workstation towers (not super loud blower fan systems like in server racks) aren't worried about it, nor their clients, I think I will be fine ;) If a client ordered hundreds or thousands of systems and they were shit, it wouldn't look good for them. Besides, if you are a person that is worried about it, heatspreaders are cheap and I have yet to come across any sort of "urgent you need to watch this asap" regarding ram temps so idk....

DDR5 only runs hot when run at more than jedec specs, 1.20v+. Increased voltage=increased heat. Longevity isn't a factor at stock voltage. Memory heat spreaders do little to nothing to cool the modules, cheap rgb spreaders in particular. The reason companies started using heat spreaders? Increased sales. They look better than bare modules.

A slight breeze across the DIMMs - sink'ed up or not - is likely the best protection of longevity. But, nothing wrong with OH! PRETTY lights either. ;) To each their own - just cool 'em.

Solid lookin' kit for a W790 board, or the like.

think you need buffered dimms on W790..

or W680 if you want to use 12th/13th gen ecc compatible intel processors that's what I am working on :)

Note to self, don't buy "open box" from provantage
