Just completed my order for the following from gentecpc.com
[FONT=Arial,Helvetica][SIZE=-1][FONT=Arial,Helvetica][SIZE=-1]-Intel VBI Asus S96J 15.4 Inch WXGA/ATI X1600 256MB/Built-in Webcam barebones
-Intel wireless a/b/g card
-Intel Celeron M 410 1.46ghz
-1GB Transcend DDR667 PC5300 1x1024mb
-Hitachi 7K100 Travelstar 60GB 7200RPM Sata HDD
Came out to $860 total, which makes me very happy. I considered a HP prebuilt, but when I looked at barebones I was able to get so much more for the same price. Im going to part out my no longer working Toshiba Sattelite M35 on ebay to recover some of the cost as well.
My planned upgrades are as follows
Core 2 Duo T7200 or higher, as well as another 1GB of ram which should round everything out very nicely. I decided to go with the 60Gb HDD instead of a larger one because I plan to use my current 60GB 5400rpm drive in an external inclosure for storage.
Anyone know if this laptop comes with an optical drive bay that requires a modular cage thing for the drive? Im 90% sure my current drive will work, since the bezels are identicle, but I have no clue still if things are different on this laptop.
