JavaScript to open windows programs?

I have cool idea of making a cool web page with nice menus then putting on my desktop using active desktop, the thing is I want links in the menus to open programs, so does anyone know a javascript to do that?

I doubt Javascript would allow this, or else people could use it to run all sorts of things. format.com, anyone?

Luckily Windows doesnt allow you to format the drive its running on

I would however agree that JavaScript is almost certainly denied this right, the "best" you can hope for is opening a new Browser Window.
