I know its more "generic" than anything else, but my samsung which I spent a pretty dime on ( 24 inch HD ) is going back in for more work for the 3rd time in as many months with the same problem. Works fine for about a week then bam it takes a poo on me.

SO I am going to best buy today... on the mission of buying a monitor. I saw this one:

Its an acer and seems to fit in the budget rather well... it was that one or this asus one:

Im trying to find something in stock. I am one of those guys that will only buy monitors and TVs from the B&M stores so if it goes bad withen the 90 days or out of the box I dont have to pack it up, get hold of company and ship it back and wait another 2 weeks for it to come back..

SO if you all had to choose... what one would it be?

Here is a dell :

that is starting to get up there out of range for me there...

and then there is the one I was originally going to pick up when I got the Samsung:

So..what it be people? Im just dumb picking out monitors...the one acer I had is still kicking 3 years now...well it was till the people moving in knocked it off the stand out in the hall way ( I was re arranging when they moved in and that was out of the way ) and they knocked it off and broke the thing.

yeah get the Asus I saw it instore the other day and it's pretty nice.

they aren't a jaw dropping brand, but I stand by my 1715b that I got about 5 years ago. it's served me well.

yeah I dont need jaw dropping benchmarks and whatnot for it. Just decent color and decent picture. The higher Res helps and i will miss the ubber res from the samsung...its just not dependable enough for my likeing. Ill be sending it again and most likely selling it cheap once it gets back. They told me the first time after 2 times they would replace it with a new one now its 3 times now. Im getting pissed off at them and well now the hunt for the monitor is on

Acer is fine with me. Never had an issue and neither have my friends. Using an Acer right now.

We have about 60 Acer monitors in a dispatch center. They are on 24/7/365 displaying the same thing all damn day and night long. They've never been turned off in 4+ years now.

We've had 1 die. It's mounting arm (aftermarket) was defective and the monitor dropped about 8 feet onto the floor. The backlight still worked but the panel was pretty trashed.

The Acer x241w I have has an intermittent problem where it will only flash "Acer" on startup. This is fixed by unplugging the power from the wall for a minute. The x241w has horrible backlight bleeding and is very bright. It is the worst TN panel I've seen.

It still works though.

I agree with buying from B&M stores for monitors for easy returns in case of dead pixels or other problems.

I was just in Best Buy today checking out the monitors and the feeds the monitors were getting were plain awful. All the monitors were hooked up with VGA, but the feed signal was complete and udder junk and made all the monitors look bad. It's hard to pick a monitor or do side by side comparisons when the picture is terrible.

The new LGs have gotten some praise. Here's the 23" matte screen: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9274616&type=product&id=1218072891677
... and the same LG 23" screen with a glossy screen: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9274607&type=product&id=1218072894682
I like the matte over the glossy because my room at home gets a lot of light and the reflections from the glossy would be a problem. The controls on both LGs are located on the right side of the screen which made accessing the OSD menus awkward. The plastic bezel felt and looked very cheap, especially the clear bottom part of the bezel. The whole thing creaked in my hand when I grabbed the bezel to rotate it.

This ASUS http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9367954&type=product&id=1218092959440 was located next to this Dell http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9219204&type=product&id=1218061795996
Although I'm not a big fan of Dell I have to admit the Dell image (with the cruddy feed) seemed to bring out more details than the ASUS. The ASUS had easy to access controls on the front of the bezel with a dedicated input button for input switching. The Dells buttons were on the side of the screen but I didn't play around with it.

This Acer http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9183224&type=product&id=1218049006792 was located on the top shelf and I couldn't get it angled down enough for a fair assessment. It does have 116 reviews on the BB website, more than any other monitor, for whatever that's worth.

It might be worth picking up three monitors to take home and try, then return the two you like least, or return all three and pick a new set of three to evaluate. There is a 14 day return policy and, reading the fine print, looks like the restocking fee doesn't apply to opened monitors.

Went from Samsung to Acer myself. More bang for the buck. No problems here. Read lots of good reviews before picking them up and so far I'm satisfied after several months.

I bought my Sammy about 7 or 8 years ago. LCD's were still very expensive. I actually got 2 Acers for a couple hundred less than what the Sammy originally cost. :D

ACER: I recently bought the Acer x223 WBD, great for a 22 inch TN panel, not bad for a TN panel.

Acer is essentially AUOptronics and BENQ, you will find the same auoptronics panels in benqs and acers so they are neither generic or low quality.

I found the 223 to be alot better than the viewsonics ( I cannot stand 1080P crappo resolution on computer monitors, they just look ODD). Couldnt get a viewsonice 2433 to look good at any resolution.

Micro Center stores use the acer monitors for their registers and have no issues with them.

I am partial to PMVA or better panels, but this Acer TN panel fitted my needs and is working out nicely on my second computer.

Personally I would recommend you AVOID THE 1080P LCD's ( stick with 1680x1050 or 1920x1200, thats right your older lcd is an inch or more of vertical viewing space and exceeds 1080P dont be sucked in my mareketing gimmicks designed to detract from the fact they are selling panels that are smaller with a 1080P resolution that makes them look stretched at best, BLAHHHHH!!!!!)
