Intel has announced a new processor today, the Xeon D-2100. The D-2100 is a low power SoC with a range of 4 to 18 cores, integrated PCH, up to 4 10Gb Ethernet ports, and a TDP of 60-110 watts. The new processor features a significant performance increase over the D-1500.
There sure is a lot of "Edge" in this announcement. Seriously, the word "edge" is used 30 times in this announcement, and 40 times in the product brief. Too bad it's a SoC so most of us will never play with one, because this could be the edgiest processor ever.
Industries and customers use the edge differently
The Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor delivers the ultimate performance to support the largest variety of high-demand applications and services, from the data center core to the edge. As the needs of the edge become more complex and varied, some services and applications will require a different balance of performance, power consumption, and size.
