Hi

I would like to use an indoor Meraki AP in the garden by protecting it in an outdoor enclosure. I also want to put some antennas on the box to increase/direct its signal.

I've opened up the AP to see what's inside and it looks pretty straight forward but I'm not 100% clear on where the radios are on the AP.

Looking at the photo below, I think the antennas are in the red boxes, but what's in the yellow box?

Is it just a case of connecting an internal to external cable and connecting some antennas?

Cheers

It will be cheaper and easier for you to buy an AP with external antennas. Even better you can buy a outdoor rated AP for cheap.

Meraki APs aren't cheap. I have a spare internal AP lying around so I don't mind doing a bit of DIY to get it up and running.

Buy an Ubiquiti outdoor AP. Trying to make an internal AP work outdoors well is a waste of time in my opinion.

OK, thanks for the suggestions guys, but looking at the photo, are the radios in the yellow or red boxes?

Thanks

You can get an MMCX-whatever bulkhad pigtail and put that into a weather-proof box, no problem. Buying the pigtail and the box are expensive.. You could go ghetto and use tupperwear.

For doing what you want to do, I am using these two units...

It works unbelievably well. And I'm not exaggerating... it's a phenomenal setup. It's fairly large... but the AP straps onto the antenna to make it like one unit.

I've played with different routers and cheapy antennas and range extenders. Finally gave up and spent the money to do it "right"... and it's night and day.
