Was reading this thread, and noticed that there was an e-mail from OCZ saying that the OCZ 420w powerstream PSU is incompatable with Asus A7N8X boards. What do you guys make of that? Have you ever heard of a power supply that was within ATX standards that was "incompatable" with a standard board?

The A7N8X is indeed incompatible with the PowerStream 420W PSU. It is a
known issue and we are working to address it.

that someone isnt within spec :p
that is very strange, while they where guessing that its the board drawing too much +5V for the CPU
Id say the CPU is powered by the +12V anyway :p

and that since that is a EPS12V compliant PSU (even in its ATX12V trim) that there is an issue with the various +12V rails, being there are at least three of them possibly 4
and the wrong components are sharing the wrong rails

or

that there is a quality control problem

or is this as simple as a connector problem??
20\24 4\8 just the wriong harness?

"With its universal ConnectAll connector, the PowerStream power supply offers all-in-one connectivity. (ATX, BTX, Serial ATA, P4 and EPS12V)"

not sure where they where reading that its incompatible over at Directron, there are no customer reviews listed on any of the 3 models, and its not mentioned in the product description

fired of an inquiry to OCZ tech support and marketing departments regarding the nature of the incompatibility

Hi,

We are still looking into the incompatibility of the A7N8X. Essentially,
the PSU will not power up when it is used with the A7N8X mainboard. The
issue doesn't seem to effect other NForce2 mainboards and we are working on
the situation currently

weird, I always thought POW_ON was pretty infallible
strange it would work on one mobo and not another

Exactly my thoughts. I wonder if the paper clip trick works with these supplies; Perhaps they are somehow sensitive to the way Asus implimented that function on their board, but it seems strange that this is the first and so far only supply to have a problem.

We noticed that if you plug in other components, like your HDD, CD-Rom, Fans, Video Card, etc. that the PSU seems to power up. It's occuring in bare configurations (mobo/cpu/video only) If anything more develops I will post it.

ahh, points to the resistance needed to trip the supply, well thats a simple work around :p
guess that mobo isnt providing enough in comparision to others

thanks for the update :D

strange how its just the K8 out of the Nvidia chipset lineup
might be something to do with all the strange VRM implementations* that have been going on for the K8 and the Power Good Signal

(Gigabyte DPS 6 phase, ect, damn VRMs on my board are hotter than the chipset :p )

I see you are at OC-Forums too Ice Czar, it was me who you e-mailed.

:)

AHA :p

so..... I now know your secret identity

yes Im a member at alot of forums, but rarely a regular at any of them
whats real funny is to see me try to post in Russian :p

so its the short protection thats cutting out?
hmmm...weird

What happens when there is not enough load on the PSU is that it thinks
there is a short and so shuts down before it damages anything. So the
solution is to add enough load to make the PSU boot.

just got this from Bo Chen at OCZ as well

Hi,
I have seen your post in the forums about the incompatibility issues between
Asus A7N8X and OCZ Powerstream product. You probably have already heard
back from us about this issue.
There is really no incompatibility issue. A7N8X board does not meet the
requirement of the BTX power supply standard which requires more load in
order to power up. Usually adding a couple of case fans or connecting a
drive will solve the problem easily.
If you have any other questions regarding this issue, please feel free to
let us know. We will be happy to assist you.

help I drowning in Tech Support :p
