iexplore.exe locking up on XP pro

OK, this one has me baffled?

I have 7 new HP computers I am setting up at work. They are running XP Pro and IE6.1.

P4 2.4 with 512 RAM.

IE will Lock up with 100% CPU utilization and when you go to the task manager it will show 2 instances of the iexplore.exe process running even though there is only one open on the desktop, both not responding.

I have ran virus scanners and SpyBot search and destroy and both come up blank.

You must kill both to get any functionality back in the OS.

They are new installs right out of the box with all MS patches applied.

Any ideas? I have searched and googled for 3 days and it is driving me crazy!

A "heads up" to everyone with an HP or Compaq machine having this problem....
