after doing a search and clicking on links it directs me to more google searches.

i get a url at the bottom go.google.com/askkkk etc....

the only way i can access the site is to copy and paste..

is my computer infected? if so, how do i get rid of it

If you think your computer is infected, disable System Restore, and start running any of the usual scanners, like SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, Ad-Aware, whatever AV software you have, etc.

Sounds like something is definitely there.

My Basic run down for machines:

kill System Restore
AV scan (with latest patches)
SpyBot scan (with latest patches)
CCleaner
Malware Bytes

Check msconfig / startup tab... look for funny starting apps that might still be lingering.

+3 on stopping system restore and then scanning.

I use ad-aware
spybot s&d
avg

they usually detect and clean most things but sometimes another is needed for a specific infection.

Good luck and hope you sort it oot.

i have avg, adware, spybot and malwarebytes but spybot and malware bytes wont even load...

avg and adware work but wont let me update.

should i just reinstall?

also, sorry about the newb question but how do i disable system restore?

If spybot and malwarebytes won't even load you probably have some form of the lovely rootkit that's been going around with antivirus 2009.

it was the gogoogle malware. it doesnt let the user update or download software.

i had to rename the install file and exe file then i could use malware. it picked up 20 infections but the gogoogle was still messing up my links

i had to go to device manager>view hidden> disable tdSSserv.sys
restart and now the links are fixed and i could download other programs.
