HTPC and Storage Server, should they be separate systems?

I've got an old PC I'm gonna reassemble into a server (got a free copy of Server 2008 R2 from school, why not use it?).

Also toying with the idea of using it as an HTPC so I don't have to run my 360 so much (even the S still heats my room). Any negatives to doing this on the same system, opposed to having it run as a server and using a different PC for the HTPC? I'd probably used XBMC, it looks pretty good, if it makes any difference.

Separate IMO since it lets you use specific server type OSes or software.

Another vote for keeping them separate.

If you do reassemble the machine into a HTPC setup and are still wanting a storage box, then also look into NAS setups. Qnap and Synology both offer very good consumer-level products with tons of features -- just bring your own hard drive(s).
