How to update firmware on HP300I?

Yeh i know it seems simple...

BUT.....its in an external USB2 enclosure which makes it a 300c or whatever it is. How do i find out which firmware it has? Is it possible to update firmware while its connected through USB2? or will i have to take it out and hook it up to IDE?

also, ive been looking for the latest firmware and cant seem to find anything...people are saying my drive is the same as some NEC brand?

any help would be appreciated, and or links to help

Hang in there for a few....I'm working on an answer for you. I have a contact in the consumer storage group who should know.

Okay, here's the deal. There is no firmware update for the drive, as of yet. When there is, it will be able to be flashed while connected through USB1.1 or USB2.0. I didn't get a timetable at the moment, because he says there aren't any major compatibility issues that need a firmware update. There is however, a compatibility utility that will help your DVD+RW discs be read in more setup players, if that is the problem your having. That's available on our site.
