how does itunes register your computer with downloaded songs?

deauthorize the computer before you format

how can i do that and how can i tell which computer is which machine?

if you only have one machine it is easy, click on Advanced then deautohorize computer.

i you have more than one machine it gets a little more involved.

clicking on this link itms://phobos.apple.com/accountSummary
will open your account information screen in itunes and should list all the machines you have
authorized.
