How do I kill/murder/destroy 'markup' in Word?

So what do I have to do to make sure that when I open a document it NEVER....EVER...opens by deafult with the 'markup' view.
How do I remove all 'markup' tracked changes?
I disabled all the "Track Changes" options but it still keeps the old versions of the document.
By chance, is there a way to totally remove 'markup' from Word 2003?

Goddamnit this thing pisses me off to no end.
