Home Video Burning Software ?

i am in the process of editing a wedding video for a friend and burning the video to a dvd. i made a small test video and when i burned it to the dvd with pinnacle studio the audio is very crunchy and it hicups every few seconds.

do you know of any free or inexpensive dvd video creation programs ?

i DO NOT need to copy or replicate dvd's.
i just need to be able to burn mpegs or avi's
if the software will allow my camera to be a source for the dvd that would be even better !
