I thought I would post this for anyone looking for affordable enterprise class drives and for peoples opinion on these drives. I recently purchased 2 2TB 7K4000 drives from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TQ7YJ4G?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
I was skeptical about these drives. $65 for a drive that retails around $150, thought for sure I would be getting used server drives. However most of the reviews were positive so I took a gamble and bought 2. I was plesently suprised to find when they arrived yesterday that both were sealed in original OEM packaging, with both being manufactured in Dec 2015! Both passed an extended test with 0 bad sectors.
Only bad thing about these drives is there is no manufacturer warranty on them. Serial number checks out for a drive manufactured in Dec 2015 but the website says these drives need to be returned to "system manufacturer or point of sale". Seller offers a one year warranty through them and then for an extra $3 you can add a SquareTrade warranty which gives you an extra year. Not a bad trade off for no manufacturer warranty for almost half off.
*There are 2 different sellers on Amazon, I ordered from DBSKY. Some reviewers are saying the other seller is shipping used drives.
