If I want to connect an empty port on a routher to the WAN port on another router I need to use a crossover cable, correct? But If I am using a switch, I can connect to a separate router's WAN port without a crossover? Finally, If I want to connect a WAP to an empty port on a router, or switch, do i need a crossover cablem, or will regular cat5 suffice. Thanks for any input.

Router <> Router = crossover CAT5
Router <> Switch = straight through CAT5
Router <> WAP = crossover CAT5
WAP <> Switch = straight through CAT5

Did that clear things up?

I just bought a D-Link 604 router and it says "all ports, both lan and wan, are auto-mdix. all ports auto-sense cable types to accomodate straight-through or Cross-over cable."
That means I can use any type of cable with any connection and it will work ok right? If so, should I still use the correct type just to have good habits if I ever run across something that doesnt work this way?
