Is it just me or does everyone agree with me that HDMI output is wayy too bright and is centered on the screen on HDTVs, which to my opinion look weird...

I've seen HDMI look good going from a laptop to a TV but I've also seen VGA look very good going from a small desktop to an LCD displaying at 1980×1080p resolution. I've used HDMI from my GTX480 to my Sharp Aquos LCD and in the Windows UI it doesn't look very good but in games it looks fine.

All of this stuff was on different computers and different televisions so I'm not sure if it's the TV or the computer.

Thats odd, I thought quality wise dp = hdmi = dvi, they are all digital, whats the difference?

The signal is the same, but some televisions apply different processing based on the ports used, and some video cards process the image based on the "type" of monitor attached, with overscan etc.

change overscan in ccc. Its not hdmi causing problems, it is the way you have it set up.

Aside from treating them differently, displayport is significantly different from HDMI/DVI. While HDMI is essentially based on DVI, DP uses data packets for transmission.

If the picture is too bright (grey blacks) through HDMI, it may be that your graphics card is outputting a different pixel format than what it should for PC use. In ATI cards, you can go to Catalyst Control Center, then My Digital Flat-Panels, then to Pixel Format and set it to "RGB 4:4:4 pixel format pc standard (full RGB)"

Don't know about nVidia cards!

The motherboard in question is a ASRock A780GMH/128M AM2+/AM3 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard that I got in 4/27/2009. It sports Onboard HDMI, VGA, & DVI. The display looks really nice in DVI & VGA, but when I try the HDMI output it looks like shit. I'll try what nalc & mightymn suggested and report back since the motherboard uses ATI HD 3200.

I finally had the chance to pop in an ATI 3870 256MB today and first thing I did was install the CCC and when I got there the Pixel Format was already at RGB 4:4:4 pixel format pc standard (full RGB). I also changed the resolution to 1080p 60Hz. However, the font is still an eye sore to look at. For now I'm going to give HDMI a break and go back to DVI. Please help me configure HDMI to look better than DVI. My HDTV model is: VO22LFHDTV10A.

I changed the Overscan to 0% and that helped expand my display resolution to fill up my display area. Thanks for that, but the font displayed is still very uglier than DVI. Some HDMI expert please help me configure this?
