Hard drive scan utility

My cousin is having problems with his computer. I'm thinking it's the hard drive. Sometimes it doesn't boot into windows and just keeps resetting. Then asks him to repair windows files or so he told me. I formatted and reinstalled windows 7 for him about 4 weeks ago, but the same problem came back.

Just looking for a utility to scan his HDD and see if it had bad spots in it.

Grab a program called CrystalDiskInfo and open it up. It will give you an instant "Health" status of the drive and also highlight any SMART trips that may of happened. Reallocated or Uncorrectable sectors is what you want to look for. Any amount of them means the hard drive is going. Also check the manufacturers site and download any disk utilities they have.
