I have a Velocity Micro gaming rig that I have been waiting for a replacement hard drive for. Long story short my Deskstar 7K1000 (750GB, 32MB Cache, 7200RPM) is dieing. Velocity Micro sent me the wrong replacement, UPS lost the second replacement, and now I am waiting for a third replacement that has yet to ship.

I was thinking about buying a new drive myself being fed up and wanting my gaming rig back yesterday. Any suggestions on what to buy?

I was thinking about a WD Black or using a spare 500GB Hitachi Deskstar I have. In addition, I could also wait for VM to just send whatever type of replacement they are sending (probably a Samsung with a 32MB Cache).

What size? How much are you looking to spend?

I'd consider:
Western Digital Black 640GB
Western Digital Black 1TB
Samsung F3 1TB

If you have a spare 500GB, then just use that until the replacement drive arrives. It shouldn't be too terrible for performance unless it's a 5400 rpm green edition or something.

use whatever you already have, and image the OS over to the new drive when it comes in?
