Had my first RAID1 degrade and need some help

As per my sig, I have two Caviar Black 1TB drives in RAID1 with drives set to RAID in the motherboard's BIOS and RAID enabled through the Intel's native on board drivers (accessed with Ctrl+I during boot). The two drive RAID1 was used for backing up active files and general media storage.

Recently, one HD registered as degraded and something like 0.5% of all the files in the accessible still accessible array now register a file size of 0 Bytes. At about the same time, the tray motor for my DVD drive conked out. How do I best fix this this?

Can I just undo the array, disconnect the degraded drive and the DVD drive, buy two new drives (looking at 4TB Blacks or REs), put those in a new RAID1, and then clone from the surviving drive? Or will undoing the array first cause me to lose everything?

If I can do it this way it would really simplify matters as all my SATA ports are in use including the degraded HD and bad DVD drive.

Any other help would be much appreciated.
