Does anyone have any recommendations for a great monitor for a laptop with a GTX 1070 HQ? What I was looking for was a Curved 27" (30" + is too much - Phrasing?) 2560 x 1440 WHQD (Doesn't have to be, but it seems like it would be nice) Monitor with G-Sync. Now, I can't find this!

Would someone be able to point me in the correct direction? If this doesn't exist, then what would be a great monitor for a GTX 1070 HQ? I want visually stunning for games like Elite Dangerous or movies!

Once I get my setup going, I would be more than happy to post a picture to the setup thread!

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I would avoid a curved screen for anything <30". Over that size, the curve is pretty nice. Under that size, it's too distracting. YMMV on that one though.

There's a lot of good options for a 27" 1440p w/ G-Sync. What's your budget and do you have any particular refresh rate goals?

My budget is around 800 but I might be willing to go up to 1000. I don't mind smaller curved screens. I don't think about 1000 hz and an IPS 4ms refresh rate or TN 1ms refresh rate sounds bad.

Thanks!

Curved is pretty pointless at that size IMO. Just pick a regular G-Sync model. 8-bit TN looks fine and so do the IPS and VA models.

That's a hell of a budget for a 27" 1440p screen. The thing is, the "small curved" market is really, really small for exactly the reasons I mentioned. It's not really my personal opinion, it's the general market opinion. So there really are very, very limited selections in curved screens at that size. And certainly none with the feature set you mentioned. If you want good curved screens, you're looking at 34" UW models at a minimum.

On to the next point. There is no 1000 Hz screen. The fastest "gaming" screens out there are may 200Hz, but most will be 144Hz.

The Asus ROG Swift PG279Q is probably the closest to your list of wishes. It's not curved, but it's 27" flat, 1440p, 165Hz with G-Sync, IPS, and typically sells for <$800. I think Acer has a similar model for around the same price.

I was in a meeting at typed that on my phone (Excuse!!!). I meant 100 Hz. I've seen the Asus ROG Swift and I like it. I will take a look at some of the larger screens. If you were to recommend a 34" screen, which would you recommend? Let's just try to stay between 800 and 1200 Bucks.

Thanks!

If you want 3440x1440 w/ G-Sync, you're really limited to two models, one by Asus (PG348Q) and one by Acer (X34). Both are usually around $1200, but sometimes they drop down to the $1050-1100 range. They're fairly similar and use the same panel. I think the Asus is "factory overclocked" to 100Hz, and the Acer you have to manually select 100Hz from the on-screen menu.

My machine can't handle a 3440 x 1440. I wish it could, but the GTX 1070 HQ is really only rated for the 2560 x 1440 from what I understand. It will not keep up on higher end games on the 3440 x 1440! :( That being said, i'd definitely love to use a 3560 x 1440.

Something like this would be perfect: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=psdc_1292115011_t4_B01M1D7JVO

The only issue is that it doesn't use G-Sync!! :/ I know that it is a 2560 x 1080, but the dpi should be affected because the decrease the height of the monitor to make it an ultra wide. Am I correct in understanding that?

Thanks!

I've never seen a 3560x1440. When you get into the UW (21:9), you're looking at either 3440x1440 or 2560x1080.

I'm not a fan of 2560x1080 on a 34" screen. At that size and that resolution, you're going to start to see individual pixels just due to the sheer size of the panel. There's a world of difference between 3440x1440 and 2560x1080 on a 34" panel, and if you can see them in person somewhere, I'd recommend checking it out before you buy.

A 1070 will be OK at 3440x1440, but not great. It will be great at 2560x1440. So it depends on what your priority might be. If you're looking for higher frame rates, then scale back and get the 27" monitor. You'll have awesome graphics and high frame rates at just about everything. If super high frame rates aren't your thing, then get the 3440x1440. With G-Sync and the settings dialed back just a hair off max, you'll push around 50-60fps in every game, and the G-sync should keep things smooth.

Either that or go all in, get the 3440x1440 screen and a second 1070.

Thank you for the advice!

I've decided on the following:
AOC Agon AG271QG 27” Gaming Monitor, G-Sync, 2560 x 1440 Res, 350 cd/m2,165hz, 4ms,DP, HDMI

I appreciate your time and help! If you think that this would be a bad decision, let me know why. I'll be purchasing it tonight once I get home.

Such regards and much thanks,

No problem, glad I could help. I've not owned an AOC monitor before, so I can't speak to that. That model looks like it's gotten good reviews though!
