This mobo has been getting some attention around here recently and I thought maybe it was time to give it it's own thread so people can have an easier time of doing a search on it to get the info they need or pass on any experience they may have had with it.

Typical price as of this posting is about $110. Its a budget P55 mATX mobo so it doesnt have as many features as some of the other P55 mATX mobos we see available. If you are looking for a new i5/i7 mobo and want to do some overclocking as cheaply as possible then the UD2 is worth looking into.

AT gave it good praise in a recent review here:

Looks very interesting.

My P5E-VM HDMI may have died and once I verify it is dead, I as planning to purchase this as a replacement. Perhaps the P55-UD2 might make more sense as it would be less than the 755 motherboard.

I don't how much overclocking you're planning to do, but the Gigabyte G45 doesn't come anywhere near the P5E-VM HDMI in that respect, from what I hear. If anyone knows something I don't, please feel free to correct me. Besides, $129 in a G45 mATX board sounds like bad value for money (especially when compared to the P55M-UD2).

My 2 cents.

My thought is that you will get more out of the P55M UD2 if you plan to go with a new i5/i7 cpu but if you just want to replace the mobo and keep your existing cpu then a G45 is the right solution. There is also a P55M UD4 that has a few more features than the UD2. Cost a little more. $140 I think. What has my attention about the Gigabyte mobos and the UD2 in particular is the auto clocking features. That and the price. AT giving it good praise just reinforces all of that as well.

Again depending on the level of overclocking you want to do, if you want to stick with s775 then you might consider the cheapo Gigas, like the G41M-ES2L. No hardcore overclocking features but it's OK for mild to reasonable OCs. And it's unbeatable for the price...

Thanks to all who offered their opinions. Due to financial considerations, I will probably go with the G41M-ES2L NichoTL suggested; but a new platform is extremely tempting.

It was not my intent to hijack the thread about Gigabyte's GA-P55M-UD2. I was using the thread as a reflection of how much value this new i5 brings to the decision making process of dealing with a hardware failure.

Again, I appreciate greatly all who responded.

So I got my eye on this mobo for my next upgrade (November) and thinking 4GB RAM will suffice (using Windows 7). The set I'm looking at is the:

G.SKILL F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD

Its on Gigabyte's UD2 approved memory list and I have seen people over at NE and Xtremesytem using it successfully. Supposedly overclocks nicely. Lowest price I have seen is $99 (last week) and the highest was $130ish (today). As of this posting NE has upped the price to $109. Most places have it for about $110 so I guess the NE $99 price last week was a sale or something.
